Age Of Empires 3 Vs 2 Hd

Age of Empires II: HD Edition. I have all age of empires games and never regretted it. AoE 3 is also much fun, but it's different than AoE 2. The deck system is new, but I like it because it adds some nice features like unique upgrades and stuff. In a way AoE 3 lets you gather all resources within your walls, you have farms for food.

I truly enjoy this game, Age Of Empires is definitely in my own top 5 video games. I think the new 'HD' version of AE2 was defiantly a fantastic idea to bring back.A game that is/was one of the lead titles for the type of game this is has everything any type of gamer could ask for. I enjoy the capability of playing online against other people around the world in the 'VS' mode.

Age Of Empires 3 Oder 2 Hd

The 'Campaign' game mode is definitely an excellent choice for new players to learn how, this and other game titles in the same genre are played. With the added DLC'S, and ad-don's available from Steam is a fun and entertaining way to keep the game fun and changing is a very big plus.I strongly recommend this video game to anyone who is just starting to play games, or is an experienced gamer. I loved Age of Kings back in the day, and I actually still played it up until a few months ago when I updated my computer from Vista to Windows 7. I decided it was time to update my Age of Empires.

Honestly, this HD version was a fairly large let-down. Both multiplayer and singleplayer are lacking. While single player has new civilizations, units, and some new buildings like palisade gates and sea towers, there is no longer dialog in the campaigns. This doesn't seem like it would be a big deal, but there is now text you have to read. It was quite a big disappointment, as a large part of getting into the game for me was hearing the units talking and talking in their accents. Now, instead of people speaking to you and explaining what you need to do, you need to basically stop what you are doing, and read the dialog that the game sends you which prohibits you from actually playing the game while you are trying to figure out what to do. Also, the campaigns are somewhat dull compared to the older games and I find myself getting bored before a mission even ends.Multiplayer is also a joke, which is why I have the title of this review stating that the game is fun if you have someone to play with.

Everyone who plays this game online either enables cheats so they over-run you in 20 seconds with the stupid racecar cheat, or if you are in a lobby where cheats are disabled, the new 'strategy' kids are doing nowadays is to start the game with the map revealed, then everyone just builds walls around other players to trap you inside. This is hardly a strategy, especially when they enable the map to be revealed so they can immediately see the treeline clearings, water crossings, stone mines, forage bushes, etc. So they can assume where players are starting. In the old AOE games, players ACTUALLY PLAYED the game. There was actually a strategy involved.

There was actually a point to playing. Now, the games take about 20 minutes max and are quite ridiculous.

Now, if you have a friend or two, the game is very fun. You can have different amounts of AI's or game modes and play with or against each other.

My friend and I have a blast teaming up against computers, working together and actually playing the game. Our games last an hour or two.

But random players make the game stupid and not even fun. If you want to play the game the way it was meant to be played, find a friend to do it with, but multiplayer is very dumb, and single player is kind of dull without the audio dialog. Overall, the game is about the same as the original. There have been a few minor tweaks here and there. For example, I can have a population as high as 500 now.

Drawing walls gives a slightly different plane color or shadow. And other things too minor to notice or describe, but nothing negative.

If you haven't played in a while, though, you might not notice them. The opening cinematic is the original, so as an HD update, this part doesn't look as good on large monitors.I am playing on a high-resolution 24 inch monitor. The graphics appear and fit exactly the way they should. It's an excellent update.

The game plays smooth on my system. On the technical side, because of the upscale, some civilization attributes may not carry as much weight. For example, the Chinese start with +3 villagers and the Goths have +10 population in the Imperial age. If you go up to 500 population, this may become less significant.

But that's probably too minor an effect for even the most religious players. The music tracks are the same, but I can't tell if they have changed at all. It seems like the audio is crisp and clear, otherwise it is as good as the original. The campaign and scenario editors are still there, as are everything else as far as I can tell. This is a Steam client game. For those of you who use Steam, you have access to the Workshop, which looks such that people are actively busy modding the game. In my browser, I find 70 pages of mods at this time.

I haven't tried any yet, but many look very interesting. Ozhara's Space Pack, for example, appears to replace the waters with outer space, and looks well done.

There are also some mods that bring back some of the original graphics if you want some retro.Ultimately, if you liked the original, then you'll probably like this update at least as much.I am very pleased with this product. The most I would pay for this game today is about twenty bucks.TESTED SPECS:AMD FX 6100 3.3GHz 6-Core, 14MB Cache, Socket AM3+8GB Ram PC3-MHz Patriot G2GeForce 650Ti 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0MS Windows 7 64-bit. I've seen a lot of people say that it's not worth the twenty bucks for the same game, but I really do think it is worth it. I've grown tired of having massive discoloration and off-resolution on a 1080p screen, but the HD edition supports 1080p natively, has no discoloration and updated textures, and therefore looks crisp, clean and sharp.

I've always thought that the graphical art style of AoE II was timeless, meaning that it will always look nice (when I look at older games for example, I usually see that look terrible graphically, but this is not the case for AoE II), but the discoloration on newer computers (of non-HD) was just destroying the experience, so the HD edition really makes it feel new again. Not only have they updated a Timeless masterpiece, but they integrated multiplayer support! This means that you get to share all your great creations from the scenario editior, share it on the Steam community, and play with others right in the game! No more are the days of Game Spy (GameRanger is the current hosting service for non-native server browsing games). I've played Age of Empires II (original) off and on since it came out, and always have some fun. I always develop a custom map, as big as possible.

(I like games that are heavy on logistics and civilization development, versus crowded games with early 'rush' tactics. My biggest complaint with old AOE was the 75-unit limit and the way the graphics looked.AOE II HD solves both of my complaints, at least for the most part. The graphics are well done and look great on my 24-inch high-res monitor. I have enough graphics horsepower to animate the water, and that looks particularly cool. However, in order to raise the population limit one must change it in both the custom scenario and in the game-start options (the lower number seems to be used if they are different). Also, I've had some difficulty in getting the game to recognize custom victory conditions. Finally, in case you are wondering, yes, the AI does cheat. I created a scenario where the red team started on a desert island with no resources at all. No food, no gold, no trees, no stone.

Nevertheless, Team Red managed to advance to the Castle Age only a short time after my civilization achieved that goal. But enough carping. I paid my money, took my chances, and am glad I did. If you liked the original AOE II and have a good monitor, you're very likely to like AOE II HD. Many people were critical of Microsoft for releasing this 'HD' version because it really doesn't update the graphics all that much (the water and fire are a little better and more realistic). Personally, I am just happy I got to purchase this for only $5 because it allowed me to recreate my childhood. I (like many others, I suspect) spent countless hours playing this game in all its supreme glory. To a whole generation of gamers, this game represents the pinnacle of RTS, the promise of computer gaming fulfilled in its entirety.

The music, the graphics, the realistic sounds made by villagers and soldiers and animals, the different architectural styles for different civilization, the meticulously devised historical campaigns - I could go on and on about what makes this game a true masterpiece. I a just glad I am able to run it on my Windows 7 laptop and Windows 8 desktop without any hitches whatsoever. I played this game before, and really loved it. Not sure why some people rate it 1 or 2 stars and write long sad stories about how they can't make it work. Weird. Here are the simple steps. I am on Windows 8.- buy the game, you then download a small Amazon program which just puts 2 web pages on your desktop. 1 is the product key for Steam, other is for instruction to download Steam.- follow the instruction to download Steam. Once Steam is installed, you will need to create an account.- once in Steam, click '+Add a Game' in the lower left corner.

Use the product key from Amazon. You then download AOEII, about 1.5gb.- once the game is downloaded, click on the AOEII HD icon, Steam will launch again to run a first-time setup- I first tried playing while on-line. I got a prompt to press some key combination if I wanted to jump into Steam Community- I then exited and relaunched AOEII after unplugging the network cable.

Worked fine, and I completed the first game. You can't play multi-player mode while you are off-line.The whole install took 10min while I did something else at the same time. If I focused on the install, it probably takes 5min. Didn't experience any issue what so ever.

I have been playing Age of Empires II for years and still have all the old cds. This HD version is pretty much the same as the original Age of Empires II Conquerors Expansion version with the automated villager actions (set and forget). I love Age of Empire II HD. I can play on multiple pcs, laptops with no cds to load!

It does work without internet connection; just log in to your Steam client and choose Play Offline! Just make sure you establish your Steam client and add the game to your Steam Library while you are connected to the internet. Once you have set up your Steam account on each computer, you can play offline anywhere. I haven't tried multiplayer yet. I'm guessing I can only play with someone with the HD version. I play this HD game on my Windows 8.1 laptop with no problems.

I still have an old Windows 7 pc and this HD version is necessary! ( to avoid the purple water graphics problem without having to modify my windowsexplore.exe settings).
